Aloha Kākou,
I am humbled and honored to have this opportunity to serve Waimānalo and the Mālama Honua Learning Center community. As we prepare for Hōkūle’a’s world-wide voyage, we are excited to share how we also are preparing for the launch of our school’s voyage. ‘A‘ohe pau ka ‘ike I ka halau ho‘okahi. In collaboration with the Pacific American Foundation, our ‘aina based, navigation influenced curriculum is evolving and developing as we include the wealth of knowledge from the community and explore various learning means, methods, and venues. We continue to explore a variety of options for our school location and are very excited about all the possibilities! Finally, we have started the hiring process and have met some talented and passionate kumu. We anticipate solidifying the team soon. I look forward to regularly communicating our progress as the excitement builds and we near our school’s launch this fall. We look forward to seeing everyone at our first ‘ohana star gazing and informational evening on February 4th!
