Malama Honua: About Us

Mālama Honua Public Charter School (MHPCS) is dedicated to providing the students of Hawaiʻi a rigorous education rooted in our indigenous cultural values. From mauka to makai, agriculture to voyaging, our programs nourish their inherent goodness – and help students develop into wise, compassionate navigators of their learning, their lives, and the 21st century global world.

Aloha Kākou,

Welcome to Mālama Honua Public Charter School. Birthed from the World Wide Voyage of Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia in 2014, we are now an award winning project based learning center dedicated to developing the mindset of the navigator. As a proud Hawaiian focused community charter school dedicated to serving Waimānalo, we provide a rigorous learning environment guided by the Hawaiian cultural values that we share with our educational partner, the Polynesian Voyaging Society. We utilize waʻa and the legacy of Polynesian voyaging as our foundation and compass – to build our cultural and curriculum sail plan.

We welcome you to learn more about our story, our approach, and our ʻohana – and invite you to join the movement to mālama honua.

Me Ke Aloha,

Denise Espania
School Director
