Papa ʻEhiku (7th Grade)
Papa ʻEhiku haumāna started their Junior Lifeguard training with ʻAnakala Glenn and ʻAnakala Ian. Through their instruction, haumāna learned what it means to be a Junior Lifeguard through the practice of Environmental Awareness and Communication & Collaboration. They learned CPR and rescue procedures at the pool and at the beach. They learned more about ocean safety and how they can help in an emergency. In April they will extend their learning with their second Junior Lifeguard program session.
Papa ʻEwalu (8th Grade)
Waʻa Camp
Papa ‘Ewalu spent last week at waʻa camp preparing for the year ahead! Our intentions for waʻa camp were to shape our mindsets to make the most of every second we have left, and to help push them to be the alaka’i as they are the eldest haumāna. We spent time reconnecting with Kānehūnāmoku and her captains and crew. We heard from guest speakers about how they live the Nā Lawena Ho’okele, and how Wa’a has led them to their careers. We also spoke about grit and how to use it as we work through hard things including 8th grade internships, projects, and defense. Best of all, we strengthened our pilina to ‘āina, kai, and to each other and leaving camp we know we can return to any of these three things when we need something to lean on.
Kula Waena Akeakamai (Middle School Science)
Akeakamai (Science) is off to a great start in Kula Waena! Papa ʻEono (6th grade) are exploring the way our kūpuna were scientists and how Hawaiʻi is still a special place today for scientific observation and research. All 3 classes also started learning about our Science and Engineering practices that help guide observation and experimentation. We also started to learn about the Engineering Design process which helps us to put our curiosity into action to identify a problem and find a possible solution.
