Our 3rd & 4th graders, along with with a few volunteer 6th graders, had a memorable experience last week, diving into the powerful story of Hōkūleʻa through music, culture, and exploration.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hōkūleʻa’s historic voyage to Tahiti, the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra performed Michael-Thomas Foumai's 'Raising Hawaiki' and, for the keiki, 'Beyond the Music,' a special program of excerpts. Through storytelling, stunning visuals, and symphonic sounds, they experienced the story of Hōkūleʻa and the enduring spirit of exploration that continues to guide us today.

We were also proud to host a table sharing more about Mālama Honua Public Charter School, where some of our haumāna shared their waʻa experiences and skills by teaching guests how to tie knots.
