Papa ʻElima |

Fundamental to our schools mission of growing leaders that embody the Nā Lawena Hoʻokele (behaviors/attributes of navigators), Papa ʻElima reflected on their learning from K-5 to present on one of our Nā Lawena Hoʻokele. Confident Cultural Identity, Environmental Awareness, Civic Responsibility, Communication and Collaboration, Initiative and Risk-Taking, and Global Perspective: students created a big idea and showcased their understanding through vignettes highlighting their learning journeys and passion projects. Creating speeches and multimedia presentations, students shared to community partners and kumu with poise before participating in questions and answers with the panel.
Big Ideas that students successfully defended ranged from: “Our kupuna taught us that we are descendants of ‘āina. It is our kuleana to mālama ʻāina because ʻāina is part of our moʻokūʻauhau,” “Kanaka have a kuleana that is told through ‘ike kupuna and shown through our lawena and hana,” and “Asking for help, speaking kindly, and working together strengthens relationships and brings good mana to both the ‘āina and the people around us.” Congratulations on all the hard work and effort youʻve put in thus far Papa ʻElima!
Papa ʻEwalu |

Papa ʻEwalu spent this year working in different internships and developing Defense projects based on their internship partners' needs. Our essential question for the year was “What is my kuleana to serve and sustain my community in a pono way.” During their 8th grade Defense, haumana showcased their growth in understanding of all 6 of the Nā Lawena Hoʻokele and their projects.
Projects ranged from ʻōlena immunity drinks, to feeding the school community with kalo that was grown and harvested by our CTAHR Interns, to helping build a new waʻa with Kānehūnāmoku.

As a class we celebrated our hard work after Defense with a day to reconnect with ʻĀina, and each other. Mahalo to all of our community members, kumu, and ʻohana who have helped us through our 8th grade Defense milestone. Next stop…puka kula!
