Papa ‘Ewalu at Waʻa Camp 2025 - spent last week at waʻa camp, preparing for the year ahead and future voyages beyond Mālama Honua. Our intention was to shift our mindsets—to make the most of every moment we have left and to rise into our roles as alakaʻi, the eldest haumāna.
We reconnected with Kānehūnāmoku, her captains, and crew, and heard from guest speakers who shared how they live the Nā Lawena Ho‘okele, and how their waʻa journeys have guided them into their careers. We also talked about grit—how to develop it and use it to navigate challenges like 8th-grade internships, projects, and defense.
Most importantly, we strengthened our pilina to the ʻāina, the kai, and to each other. As we left camp, we carried with us the understanding that we can always return to any of these three pillars when we need support or grounding.
